Thirty-five million Americans receive a root canal procedure every year when their tooth becomes either too damaged that it hurts, or if it becomes infected. The root canal procedure allows the person to keep the tooth without pain, and is supposed to keep a tooth completely free of infection. While this procedure, which creates what we call a “root canal tooth”, does allow a person to keep an otherwise unviable tooth, it creates potential health risks for the owner.
The root canal procedure cleans out infection from the main channel of the tooth. The blood supply and the nerve supply to the tooth are cut. This leaves a dead tooth. Unfortunately, there are millions of feet of microscopic tubules in teeth. This makes a great home for bacteria to grow and multiply.
Research indicates that all root canal teeth harbor infection. No where else in the body do we keep a dead organ. We don’t see dead kidneys or gallbladders being left inside individuals. Why? They rot and cause infection. Do you suppose a root canal tooth is any different than anywhere else in the body? It’s unlikely. And many cases of infected root canal teeth support this theory. Anyone having a tooth removed can have it tested by a company called DNA Connexions and they will assess which infections are still harboring in the extracted tooth.
Unfortunately, it appears that many have immune systems that are not equipped to handle keeping a dead organ in the body. It does seem that those who get the sickest with root canals tend to have more than one root canal tooth, supporting the immune-burden theory.
When I was deathly ill, I had 5 teeth extracted and 4 cavitations cleaned out. A cavitation is an area of bone that hasn’t healed properly and harbors infection as well, usually from a previous extraction site. In my case, my cavitations were from my previous wisdom teeth extraction sites.
Immediately after my biological dentistry procedure, my heart palpitations ceased, never to return four years later. Within days, I could talk again, something I hadn’t been able to do for years. I could sit up for longer and longer periods of time. my pain continued to get less and less each day. I was weak as a kitten, but I was on my way!
